This world-famous Rose Garden features 14 acres, thousands of rose bushes, and more than 300 varieties of roses & 600 beds. Special areas of interest include the Idea Garden, Heritage Garden, and camellia and day lily collections. The Rose Garden is open from dawn until dark, seven days a week, and admission is free.

Tyler Rose Museum and Gift Shop

The Tyler Rose Museum and Gift Shop are the gateway to the Rose Garden. This spectacular attraction preserves and displays the story of Tyler’s rose growing industry and pageantry of the Texas Rose Festival. The University of Texas at Tyler was created as Tyler State College by the Texas Legislature in 1971 and was renamed Texas Eastern University four years later. The University became a campus of The University of Texas System in 1979, as a result of action by the 66th Texas Legislature.

The Smith County Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1959 by individuals and business firms dedicated to discovering, collecting, and preserving data, records, and other items relating to the history of Smith County, Texas. They joined together in a rewarding effort to preserve the fascinating stories of Smith County’s past in the many areas of historical preservation pursued by the Society.
